Duck Pond

Duck Pond is a small, spring-fed slough at the base of Myrtle Mountain about 1 kilometre from Four Corners. In dry years the pond is very small, but it still sustains a healthy population of cattails, and ducks such as mallards and blue-winged teal are often spotted here. Moose frequent the area and the trail from Four Corners is a great place to see glacier lilies in the spring.

Cattails are the predominant aquatic plant at Duck Pond. There are more here than at any of the other wet areas in the Nature Park. A small island sits in the middle of the pond and a couple of hops on a log will bring you to it.

In addition to cattails there are a
variety of other aquatic plants
in the pond like smartweed
shown here and water plantain
and rushes. We have yet to
do inventories of plants in
the Nature Park but we expect
to find some species at Duck Pond that don't live anywhere else in the Park.
