![]() The surveyor, F.W. Aylmer is credited with naming the little survery depot at the foot of the hill "Golden City". The "Cache", as it had been called until that time, was little more than a storage place for supplies with a tent camp nearby. However, the mining prospectors had come with the advancing construction crew, and at the foot of Mount Eisenhower some promoter had planted rich samples of silver ore and a small mining town sprouted like a mushroom with the high-sounding title "Silver City". When the news reached the surveyors at the "Cache", the new name "Golden City" was proposed by F.W. Aylmer so as not to be outdone by Silver City. The proposal was unanimously approved by the group as they gathered around the campfire. |
